Sheehan welcomes court ruling in Pearse Jordan inquest

31 January, 2014 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has welcomed today’s High Court decision to quash the verdict from the original inquest into the killing of IRA Volunteer Pearse Jordan by the RUC in 1992.

 The West Belfast MLA said:

“I welcome this decision by the High Court. The original verdict was most certainly flawed and the judge has recognised this.

“There was a litany of failings in how the outcome of the inquest was reached and this verdict is a vindication of the courageous work and campaigning of Pearse’s parents Hugh and Teresa in highlighting that.

“Any new inquest should seek to expose the full truth of circumstances surrounding the killing of their unarmed son.

““Sinn Féin will continue to support the rights of families like the Jordans to find out the truth regarding the death of their loved ones."
