Ó Snodaigh welcomes Councillor Damian Molyneaux to Sinn Féin

1 February, 2014 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin Party Whip Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed Councillor Damian Molyneaux to Sinn Féin.  Councillor Molyneaux resigned from the Labour Party in September last year having become disillusioned with the party leadership and its performance in government.  He joined Sinn Féin this week.

Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said;

“I want to welcome Damian to Sinn Féin and I look forward to working with him into the future.

“Councillor Molyneaux’s decision to join Sinn Féin is a sign of the growing support for our party and the policies we espouse.”

Councillor Molyneaux said;

“My decision to join Sinn Féin, like my decision to leave the Labour Party, was not taken lightly.  My reason for being in politics is to defend working people and to stand up for those who are in most need in society.

“Unfortunately the Labour Party has abandoned all of that.  It has turned its back on the very people it was established to help and has joined a consensus for cuts with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

“I have joined Sinn Féin because it is the only party that is standing up for ordinary people both on the ground and in the Dáil..

“I believe Sinn Féin is genuinely committed to equality and to building a country that puts the interests of ordinary citizens first.

“I look forward to working with my new colleagues on that basis.”
