Chinese community make valuable contribution to society – Jennifer McCann

4 February, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann joined members of the Chinese Community in Belfast to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

Speaking at the event in the Europa Hotel the West Belfast MLA said:

“The Chinese Community like so many others who come to Ireland from other countries make a valuable contribution to society here.

“Tonight’s celebrations give people the opportunity to reflect on the successes of the past year and to look forward to new opportunities ahead.

“As most of us move forward to create a more diverse and multi-cultural society there are still unfortunately a small minority who want to derail the positive work being done.

“There is a responsibility on us all to condemn all forms of racist attacks and to challenge prejudice and intolerance no matter where it comes from.

“By coming together to celebrate diversity we can ensure all our ethnic minority groups feel a sense of belonging and acceptance while retaining pride in their culture.”
