Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has said keeping our children safe on the internet must be a priority for us all.
Speaking while on a visit to St Ita's Primary School and Wellington College on Safer Internet Day she said:
“The theme for this years Safer Internet Day is ‘Lets create a better internet together’.
“In the last few years we have seen how important new technologies have become to the lives of young people.
“Technology offers new opportunities for us all, allowing us to connect with each other and engage with society in new ways.
“Sadly while the internet can be a useful tool to educate our children it can also expose them to very real dangers.
“There is a responsibility on all of us to educate and empower our children and young people, to recognise and deal with those dangers.
“Internet Safety Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on how best to deal with the problems that arise and how best to keep children safe.”
