Seanad sitting for only two days makes a mockery of political reform – Cullinane

11 February, 2014 - by David Cullinane

Speaking today Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane said it is a disgrace the Seanad is sitting for only two days this week and that this must not happen again.

Senator Cullinane said:

“We are only sitting on Tuesday and Wednesday; this is unacceptable and makes a mockery of Seanad reform.

“This is a disgrace. In a country where we have people on trolleys in our public hospitals, almost 350,000 people out of work, housing waiting lists, homelessness, and a crumbling education system it is not as if we are short of issues to discuss.

“As public representatives we are paid by the tax payers of this country and yet we are prevented from doing our job by political ineptitude and the failure of the Government to reform the Seanad.

“This is an affront to our political system and Sinn Fein will be having none of it.”
