McDonald welcomes PAC decision on whistleblower transcript

13 February, 2014 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has welcomed today’s decision of the Public Accounts Committee to reverse its decision to deny whistleblower Garda Sgt Maurice McCabe a transcript of his evidence to the committee.

Deputy McDonald said:

“I welcome today's decision by PAC members to reverse the decision made last week to refuse a request made by Sgt Maurice McCabe that he be provided with the transcript of his own evidence.

“The matter has now been referred to the Committee on Procedures & Privileges and the PAC has requested that the committee conclude its deliberations in a timely manner.

“It has been my strong view all along that Sgt McCabe be provided with a copy of the transcript if he so requested.

“Whilst Sgt McCabe’s testimony was given during private session, it was always the case that should he request a copy of the transcript that he should be provided with it.”
