Minister must acknowledge historical value of the Naomh Éanna-Boylan

20 February, 2014 - by Lynn Boylan MEP

Sinn Féin Dublin EU candidate Lynn Boylan has called on the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to deliver on his commitment to bring together all interested parties to discuss the rescuing of Ireland’s oldest commercial ship the Naomh Éanna.

Lynn Boylan said:

“It is deeply disappointing that the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has thus far failed to acknowledge the historical value of the Naomh Éanna.

“An appeal for a 16 week grace period has been sought to allow time for the Irish Ship and Barge Fabrication Co. put together a business plan using private investment to restore the Naomh Éanna.

“This former Galway - Aran ferry is the last ship of its kind and on that basis it is my strong view that every effort should be made to facilitate those who wish to restore it to its former glory.

“Minister Deenihan must deliver on his commitment to bring together all interested parties to discuss the rescuing of the Naomh Éanna.”
