Welcome for Victims and Survivors report

21 February, 2014 - by Bronwyn McGahan

Sinn Féin MLA and `member of the OFMdFM Committee Bronwyn McGahan has welcomed the publication of the independent assessment on the Victim and Survivors Services by Victims Commissioner Kathryn Stone.

 Ms. McGahan said,

“It is important that victims and survivors have a service that is tailored to their specific needs if we are to bring about the healing that is needed for them to move on from the trauma of the conflict.

“It was important that the Victims and Survivors Service met this criteria and the OFMdFM initiated an independent assessment in November 2013 to look at the delivery of the service.

“The committee has taken a huge interest in ensuring that the service is fit for purpose so I welcome the fact that the Commissioner has now reported back and that we can now move forward.

“I also welcome the openness of the report and the commitment by both the First and Deputy First Ministers to make sure that the necessary changes take place and that the proper scrutiny mechanisms will be in place to monitor progress on the issue.”
