Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has written to the Taoiseach to ask him to make a statement to the Dáil next Tuesday in relation to the dossier on serious malpractice within An Garda Síochána.
The dossier from Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe reportedly deals with cases as serious as murder, abduction and assault.
The Taoiseach confirmed yesterday that Garda McCabe's allegations are of a "very serious nature".
Gerry Adams said:
"In the light of allegations that the Minister for Justice knew about these cases for two years and failed to take any action, I do not believe that it is appropriate, as proposed, for the same Minister to direct a review of the documents.
"Given the gravity of these claims, and the fact that it is in the public interest that confidence be restored in An Garda Síochána and the justice system, I have asked that the Taoiseach make a statement to the Dail on this issue next Tuesday."
