The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Local Government, Brian Stanley TD, has called on Minister Phil Hogan to clarify what implications the new building regulations to be introduced on March 1st will have on the construction sector and particularly on people wishing to build their own homes.
The Laois Offaly TD said;
“The proposed regulations are causing much concern among people who are planning to build their own homes. It is claimed that the regulation will add substantially to the costs of building houses, and that as a consequence up to 2,000 planned self-built houses will not proceed this year.
“All of that would appear to contradict recent statements on the part of the government that they are intent on tackling the housing shortage. I have put questions to Minister Hogan on this, asking him to explain how the regulations will work, and the scale of additional costs imposed.”
