Sinn Féin Dublin EU Candidate Lynn Boylan will once again host a major public meeting on debt crisis and mortgage distress in north Dublin, this time at the Milestone Pub in Balbriggan on Tuesday evening (25th February) at 7.30pm
Speakers will include Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD and the local Sinn Féin representative Malachy Quinn.
Lynn Boylan said:
“One in four mortgages are in distress with 180,000 households struggling to make their monthly mortgage repayments. Recent data shows that many of these households have at least one person in full time employment but still cannot make ends meet.
“There is no doubt that mortgage debt crisis is Fianna Fáil’s legacy but despite all the pre-election promises the current government has failed to put in place sustainable solutions for families experiencing mortgage distress.
"In addition members of the public undergoing financial hardship now have the added stress of long waiting times to meet with MABS (the Money Advice & Budgeting Service). In Fingal, for example, anybody wishing to meet with MABS will have a wait of over 8 weeks for their initial meeting.
“Sinn Féin has called for a F.A.I.R. approach to dealing with mortgage distress – one that puts the family home first, adjudicates on an independent basis and brings about resolutions that can involve write-downs among other options on a case by case basis.”
