Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has hosted an event in Stormont to highlight the problems associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mr McMullan said,
“I was delighted to host an awareness event today in Stormont to deal with the issue of people suffering with Alzheimer’s.
“The event was part of a programme in educating elected representatives including MLA’s and Councillors on how they can assist people suffering from the illness.
“Some of the symptoms associated with dementia are memory loss, impaired mental functioning, personality changes and the inability to carry out daily tasks.
“People suffering from the illness need help with their everyday lives and as the illness progresses they will need full time care.
“It is important that we are fully supportive of Alzheimer’s sufferers and ensure that they get their full entitlements so today session was very informative for elected representatives in how we can be of assistance.
“I will now be disseminating this information to my colleagues in the local Council so it can get into the local community and improve the lives of people suffering from dementia.
“I will continue to support the Alzheimer’s Society in their campaign to heighten awareness of the illness and developing better treatment for patients.”
