Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane has expressed his sadness at the news that 36 jobs are to go at Microbrush Limited in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. He described the news as devastating for the workers and their families and another blow for County Waterford.
Speaking from Leinster House, Senator Cullinane said:
"This news is sad for the workers, their families and the local economy in Dungarvan. It is another blow for a county which is suffering from dangerously high levels of unemployment.
"Earlier this year we had the announcement that Honeywell Process Solutions is also to close. Any job losses in Waterford are regrettable and worrying given the high level of unemployment in the County".
"Last year I published the South East Economic Development Strategy. It is an all-party report signed off on by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. It proposed a suite of Government interventions to help sustain and create jobs in Waterford and the Southeast.
"Many of the report’s key recommendations have still not been implemented. This Government needs to gets its act together and deliver for Waterford and the Southeast".
