Sinn Féin's EU candidate for Dublin, Lynn Boylan, has pointed to the sheer hypocrisy of Labour party members staging a protest outside the EU offices in Dublin today.
The young EU candidate stated:
"Labour party youth members today attempted to create an illusion that there would be a difference between voting for a Fine Gael candidate and a Labour candidate in the upcoming EU elections on the basis that the European People's Party, of which Fine Gael is a member, is a cheerleader for austerity in Ireland and in Europe
"Let me be quite clear. There is no difference between Fine Gael and Labour when it comes to cheerleading austerity. Both parties are equally culpable and the attempt today by Labour party members to create a difference between the two government EU candidates is total and utter hypocrisy. Whether people vote for Brian Hayes or Emer Costello will make little difference. Both are members of government parties and both have proudly supported the austerity measures of the last three years.
"I believe people will see through today's illusionary tactics from Labour party members and I hope today's stunt is remembered on May 23rd".
