Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD this evening took part in Dublin City University’s Transform Europe International Conference.
Deputy McDonald joined European political leaders to discuss social resistance and political alternatives at a national and European level.
The Dublin Central TD said:
“It is important for us to come together to discuss not only the difficulties facing citizens across the EU’s member states but also to develop strategies for change.
“As the main party opposing the government and EU agenda of cuts and austerity, Sinn Féin wants to reach out to other likeminded parties to promote real political and social alternatives.
“Unity can be found on progressive issues such as a commitment to protect public services, investment in job creation and our youth, and debt write-down.
“Today we welcome Alexis Tsipras to Dublin, leader of the opposition in Greece and Party of the European Left’s candidate for the position of EU Commissioner.
“Alexis Tsipras’ message of left unity resonates with many people, not just in Ireland but across Europe.
“It is clear that the European Union requires fundamental change. Sinn Féin will set out its vision for EU reform over the coming weeks.”
