Christine Buckley was a phenomenally brave woman – Mary Lou McDonald TD

11 March, 2014 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Responding to the sad news of Christine Buckley’s death Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD described the campaigner as a phenomenally brave woman.

The Dublin Central TD said:

“By speaking of her experiences of institutional abuse Christine Buckley not only gave a voice to others who had suffered she also made all of us face up to the horrific neglect and abuse children suffered in the industrial schools regime.

“Christine Buckley was a phenomenally brave woman and a straight talker who despite her own suffering retained her empathy for others. Our thoughts are with her family and friends and on behalf of Sinn Féin I extend my deepest sympathies to them.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.” ENDS
