Praxis decision should be reversed – Mickey Brady

12 March, 2014 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady will join a protest this morning against the eviction of mental health charity Praxis from Hillsborough Castle.

The protest is organised by the newly formed Stop the Praxis Eviction Campaign.

Mickey Brady said he will be at the protest to show Sinn Féin’s support for the charity’s Secret Garden project.

“As someone who first worked closely with Praxis 30 years ago in Newry, I’m dismayed at the decision by the NIO and Royal Historic Palaces to evict the charity from the grounds,” said Mickey Brady.

“The Secret Garden Project, which includes a coffee shop and organic garden, provides real jobs and training to people affected by mental health, learning disabilities and brain injuries.

“Praxis has invested in and developed the project over the last years, providing skills and opportunities to a group of vulnerable people.

“I’m calling on the NIO and Royal Historic Palaces to reverse its decision immediately and work with Praxis to find a solution on site.”
