Hamilton acting as Tory cheerleader on cuts – Alex Maskey

16 March, 2014 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin Alex Maskey MLA has accused DUP minister Simon Hamilton of attempting to sell the British government’s plan to impose savage cuts on public services and jobs in the North.

“It seems Simon Hamilton is on a crusade to scare the public into accepting Tory-imposed cuts,” said Alex Maskey. “His claim today that we will be fined a billion pounds if we continue to oppose the cuts is simply ridiculous.

“It’s clear that Simon Hamilton has thrown in the towel on the cuts to public services and jobs and has resorted to scaremongering on the issue.

“He is acting as a cheerleader for policies which will hurt the most vulnerable in our society rather than standing up for the poor, the elderly, the low paid and the disabled.

“The finance minister should be working to achieve economic policies which benefit the people of the North rather than sheepishly following diktats from London.
