Speaking at an event to celebrate European week of Action against Racism, the West Belfast MLA:
“As we welcome European Week of Action against Racism by celebrating the strength of diversity, it is important that we condemn recent racist attacks on families and individuals here.
“All of us in society have a responsibility to challenge the scourge of racism and sectarianism no matter where it comes from and none of us can become complacent about intolerance and prejudice in any form.
“Just as many Irish people are welcomed in countries all over the world it is important that we also welcome people who come to Ireland to live.
“Tomorrow is UN Day against Racism when people will unite against racism and celebrate the richness that diversity brings to society.
“It is an opportunity for everyone to unite to challenge racism and sectarianism and send a clear message of support to those directly affected by intolerance and hate crime.”
