Political unionism's response to Anna Lo's comments predictable but unfortunate - Hazzard
Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed Anna Lo’s contribution to the debate surrounding a united Ireland and has described political unionisms response as unfortunate but predictable.
Speaking today Mr Hazzard said:
"Anna Lo’s contribution to the debate on an united Ireland is welcomed.
"Sinn Féin have consistently stated the merits of a united Ireland respecting the rights and entitlements of all of the people who share this island in terms of the economic, social and political spheres.
"We have also consistently called for a full and frank debate on these issues and for others to take part.
“The response however from political unionism to Anna Lo’s statement that a united Ireland would be “better placed economically, socially and politically” is unfortunate but predictable.
"Instead of having a sensible debate some unionists have chosen have vilify Anna Lo’s views for their own short-term political expediency.
"I would appeal to unionists to engage in a debate on the way forward for all the people of this island rather than attempt to denigrate anyone who doesn’t share their opinion."
