Taoiseach has added to controversy around Garda Commissioner - Gerry Adams TD

22 March, 2014 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has said that it would have been better for the Taoiseach to heed his own advice to Ministers in relation to keeping remarks on the controversy surrounding the Garda  Commissioner to the Cabinet.

Gerry Adams said:

"The Taoiseach's remarks yesterday have further added to the controversy surrounding the Garda Commissioner.

"The growing controversy has now forced five Ministers to agree that the  Commissioner needs to issue an apology. Incredibly the Taoiseach has rebuked them.

"It would have been better for the Taoiseach to heed his own advice in relation to keeping remarks on the controversy surrounding the Garda  Commissioner to the Cabinet.

"This whole episode has displayed a very clear failure of leadership on behalf of Enda Kenny.

"Justice Minister Alan Shatter and Garda Commissioner Callinan must now apologise and withdraw their damaging comments about Sgt Maurice McCabe and Garda John Wilson.

"The Taoiseach must stop defending the indefensible and ensure that this happens."
