Welcome for extra child care places – Jennifer McCann

27 March, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has welcomed the launch of a grant scheme to create more childcare places.

Speaking at the grant scheme’s launch, the West Belfast said:

“This grant scheme launched by the Executive aims to sustain and create up to 7,000 school aged childcare places in areas where currently there is none or insufficient provision.

“Most of these will be new places, targeting the needs of disadvantaged families and rural communities. Good childcare services are essential to give children a strong start in life and enable them to do better at school and beyond.

“Parents have consistently said that affordability and accessibility are the main barriers, which they face when looking for flexible quality childcare.

“Enabling parents to work or train for work is an important step in improving a families living standards and life chances.

“Today’s announcement is a first step to meeting their childcare needs so that they can access quality childcare provision at a price they can afford.”
