UDA need to get off the backs of people in Larne – McMullan

31 March, 2014 - by Oliver McMullan

South East Antrim MLA Oliver McMullan has said today police could have done more in response to attacks by a UDA mob on homes in Larne last night.

“Some of the victims of last night’s attacks have already been attacked on more than one occasion,” said Oliver McMullan.

“I had warned that an attack like this was imminent and I’m not convinced that everything, which could have been done by police to prevent it was done.

“Of course the responsibility for the attacks lie with the thugs behind it.

“The south east Antrim UDA should get off the backs of the people of Larne and disband immediately.

“The police need to respond robustly to this and I’m calling for arrests of those involved.”

Oliver McMullan also said that he would be asking for a report on the police response to the incident.

“I will be asking for a full police report on last night’s incident as I believe an opportunity was missed to make arrests,” said Oliver McMullan.

“I acknowledge the courage and the efforts of the police officers injured in an effort to prevent an attack on one of the homes.

“However, it’s worrying that police were unable to apprehend any of the 70 to 100 strong mob involved in the attacks.” CRÍOCH/END
