Reilly ignores Prime Time revelations on ambulance crisis - Ó Caoláin

1 April, 2014 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has said that Health Minister James Reilly showed "gross insensitivity" in refusing to acknowledge in the Dáil today the grief of families who lost loved ones as a result of delays in the arrival of emergency services as exposed in the recent Prime Time investigation.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

"Health Minister James Reilly at Minister's Questions today refused to acknowledge the widespread public concern at the crisis in our ambulance service as exposed in the recent Prime Time investigation. Worse than that, the Minister showed gross insensitivity to the grief of families who lost loved ones as a result of delays in the arrival of emergency services when he accused me of 'shroud-waving' for raising the issue.

"Minister Reilly's bullish approach to a very serious issue of public health and safety demonstrates once again that he is unfit to hold the Health portfolio."
