Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has said that sectarianism is a stain on our society that needs to be eradicated.
Speaking before attending a debate on challenging sectarianism Ms. McCann said,
“Sectarianism is a blight on our communities that has lead to communal strife and division that has seen people killed, injured or displaced and it must be faced down at every opportunity.
“Sectarianism has also been used to mask the real social economic problems in our society and to keep the two communities from uniting to tackle these problems.
“I would like to thank the organisers Inter Action Belfast for bringing forward this debate and launching an anti sectarian charter as it is important that we bring these issues into the public eye and thrash out solutions.
“Sinn Féin has opposed and will continue to oppose sectarianism and other hate crimes at every turn but it is important that every person signs up to the anti sectarian charter in order to isolate those espouse hate and division.”
