Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Arts, Heritage, Tourism and Sport, Sandra McLellan TD, has warned, “that the proposed Sky deal will cost GAA fans €768 a year.”
“I fully understand that the GAA must consider all options when it comes to funding. But the deal with Sky Sports is very short sighted.
“Anybody who wants to watch the GAA pay per view games will now have to ensure they have a twelve month contract with Sky Sports. This is asking households to pay out a total of €768 a year to watch 14 games. This goes against everything the GAA stood for.
"GAA games are followed by households the length and breadth of the country. It will make them inaccessible to many rural homes, senior citizens and those on Saorview or UPC.
"While the grass roots may benefit from a deal, it will be seen as giving with one hand while taking €768 with the other.
"The GAA should seriously reconsider the terms of a pay per view Sky deal."
