Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha has called for people to attend this evening's protest in support of Dublin Fire Brigade retaining its role as an ambulance service provider.
The protest is at 5pm this evening (Monday 7 April) at City Hall.
Councillor Mac Donncha said;
“On behalf of the Sinn Féin Councillors in Dublin I commend the front-line emergency service workers who have organised this campaign to stop the efforts of the HSE to end the vital role of Dublin Fire Brigade as an ambulance service provider in our city and county.
“For decades the Dublin Fire Brigade has provided this life-saving service and brought it to the level of excellence that it has reached today. While the ambulance service in the rest of the State struggles under HSE mismanagement and Government cutbacks the Dublin Fire Brigade, despite lack of proper funding from the HSE, is providing a better level of service.
“We need a comprehensive capacity review of all ambulance services in Ireland with a view to increased provision of personnel and infrastructure. The aim should be to establish a National Ambulance Service, outside the management of the HSE which, as the recent Prime Time investigation has shown, is not fit to run such a service.”
