Decision to evict charity should be reversed – Jennifer McCann

28 April, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann speaking ahead of an Assembly debate on the Secret Garden site at Hillsborough said the decision to evict Praxis Care needs to be reversed.

After speaking with Praxis Care this morning the West Belfast MLA said:

“Teresa Villiers and the NIO need to respect the rights of those who are vulnerable in society.

“The 16 people with learning difficulties and their support staff should be allowed to continue to work at the Secret Garden in Hillsborough.

“Praxis Care have had a lease on the site for over 20 years and they have invested up to £400,000 there.

“When the Coalition Government in Britain came into power, it ordered Praxis, and the 16 people with learning difficulties who were working there, to leave.

“It is often said that the measure of a progressive, caring society lies in its treatment of its most vulnerable citizens.

“I am calling on Teresa Villiers to ensure all the people who work at the Secret Garden at Hillsborough will continue to do so.”
