Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has welcomed the announcement that the public consultation on the A5 dual carriageway will begin this week.
According to the local MLA, who sits on the Assembly’s DRD committee
“The A5 dual carriageway is an essential lifeline for addressing the infrastructural deficit west of the Bann and for connecting the North West region of Ireland to Dublin.
“Not only is this important for economic development, but also for safety, as the present A5 is notoriously dangerous, claiming many lives each year.
“The first of 3 reports will be publicly available in the DRD’s section offices and council offices in Omagh, Strabane, Derry and Dungannon from 30th April until 13th June. They are also available for viewing in DRD headquarters and in the DRD Western Division office, County Hall, Omagh.
“A fourth report will open for consultation in September and further consultation on the overall environmental statement and the draft vesting and direction orders will start in November.
‘‘Like most other people, I wish that the A5 dual carriageway was well under construction at this stage, however, the completion of these reports and the opening of the first public consultation marks an important step forward on this major road project and I encourage people to come along and view the documents.”
