Racist attacks on minorities in East Belfast must stop - Ó Donnghaile

5 May, 2014

Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has condemned the recent attacks on the Polish community in East Belfast and called on the PSNI and community leaders to do more to tackle the scourge of racism.

 The East Belfast councillor said:

"This weekend we have seen more attacks on Polish families in East Belfast.

This has to be condemned by all right-thinking people in our community.

My immediate thoughts are with those families immediately affected. They have arrived to our city no doubt with the hope of a better life and have found themselves attacked by mindless racists motivated only by hate.

All sections of life in East Belfast must stand up for these families and face down the racists in our midst.

I am concerned that these attacks are continuing with what seems like impunity.

I would call on anyone who has any information about these attacks to pass the information on immediately to the police." ENDS/CRÍOCH
