Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has called on the DETI Minister Arlene Foster to ensure that there is a legacy from the Giro d”Italia.
Mr McMullan said,
“The Giro d”Italia will come through the Glens this week and will be seen by millions of people worldwide but unless we build on this opportunity to promote the region, the boost to the local economy could be short term.
“I congratulate all the villages in the Glens areas who have worked so hard to ensure that their areas are neat and tidy despite being denied funding to improve their appearance for the race.
“I am now calling on the Minister Arlene Foster to look at building a legacy on the back of this opportunity by putting money into promoting tourism in the Glens and East Antrim area.
“I intend to raise this with the Minister at the Assembly so that we have a long term strategy to promote the area and bring in more tourists to help build the local economy.”
