Nuclear power should not be developed in Ireland – Michael Colreavy TD

13 May, 2014 - by Michael Colreavy TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Michael Colreavy TD, has said that nuclear power should not be developed in Ireland.

Speaking following the publication of the government Green Paper on Energy Policy in Ireland, Deputy Colreavy said:

“Sinn Féin, at our most recent Ard Fheis, reiterated our opposition on nuclear energy.

“Nuclear energy, which has been a controversial source of energy production throughout the world, should not be developed in Ireland.

“Methods of producing energy that can cause serious risk to the health and environment of Irish citizens, including nuclear generation and fracking, should not be supported.

“Ireland has a wealth of potential for the development of renewable energy.

“The area that the government should focus on in developing domestic energy production is renewable, sustainable sources.

“Nuclear power is not the answer.”
