Sinn Féin representatives from north and south today met farming and rural communities at the Balmoral Show.
Speaking at the Sinn Féin stall at the Balmoral Show at the former Long Kesh prison site, North Kerry TD Martin Ferris said;
"Our presence at the Balmoral Show shows Sinn Féin's commitment to rural Ireland and the family farm.
"Rural communities have suffered as a result of austerity and we are wedded to defending and helping people living and working in rural areas across the island.
"We are an all-Ireland party and we represent the interests of rural and farming communities at every level.
"We currently have one MEP, Martina Anderson, who has consistently supported rural communities and it is our hope that she will be joined by an MEP from each province. And we are confident they will work for the benefit of rural Ireland.
West Tyrone MLA Declan McAleer said;
"Sinn Féin has always been a staunch supporter of rural communities. Events like the Balmoral Show allow us the opportunity to meet and show our support for Ireland's farmers.
"In the Assembly we are taking the lead on rural issues with Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle O'Neill.
"In Leinster House Martin Ferris is ensuring the voice of rural Ireland is heard and in Europe Martina Anderson has been promoting the interests of farmers and others in rural communities by opposing cuts to the CAP budget." Ends/Críoch
