Sinn Féin Councillor Co-coordinator Sean McPeake has helped launch the Sinn Féin local government manifesto today in Derry. Also present were MEP Martina Anderson, Belfast Councillor Deirdre Hargey and Strabane Councillor Karina Carlin who outlined various aspects of the manifesto.
Councillor McPeake said,
“With the new powers being bestowed on Councils across the North it is important that we have a manifesto that reflects our ability to bring about change and improve the lives of citizens by maximising the potential these changes give us.
“This manifesto outlines our pledge to the people to deliver first class services based on equality and fairness and to bring a Republican analysis to local Government.
“It is important that the increased economic and planning powers are utilised to bring prosperity and jobs into every council area across the North.
MEP Martina Anderson added,
“Although I am very busy with the European campaign I felt it important to participate in the launch of the Local Government Manifesto as team Sinn Féin has the same political thread running through every elected body on the island of Ireland and that is building a nation of equals and promoting the equality agenda.
“I was delighted to be joined on the stage by two strong woman councillors outlining the promotion of women not only in election but in public life, a key element in our manifesto.”
