Brian Stanley TD welcomes Environment Committee support for Wind Turbine Bill

19 May, 2014 - by Brian Stanley TD

Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on the Environment, Brian Stanley TD, has welcomed the decision by the all-party Oireachtas Environment Committee to support the taking of the Sinn Féin Wind Turbine Bill to committee stage.

They have requested that the consultation process on the regulations governing wind farms be completed as quickly as possible in order that this take place.

Deputy Stanley said:

“I welcome the decision of the Committee, coming as it does after the Government and other opposition parties supported our Bill in the Dáil. It is clear that strict statutory regulation, rather than guidelines, is required in the area of wind farms.

“It is vital that before any more major wind farm projects are allowed to proceed that we have strict regulations regarding set back distances and other issues that are a cause of concern to communities where it is proposed to locate these projects.”
