Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams TD has today called upon the Irish public to make the change from the failed politics of old by voting for Sinn Féin.
Speaking at the party’s final press conference of the election campaign, Deputy Adams said:
“Recent times have exposed serious failings in many of the institutions of Irish life.
“The old way of doing politics has failed.
“Citizens are still being forced to pay for the actions of corrupt bankers, developers and politicians.
“This is deeply unfair.
“Banking debt, unemployment, forced emigration, a raft of new taxes, including water taxes and the property tax and cuts to public services are crushing the hope of citizens.
“It is time for change – on our councils, in the Dáil and in Europe.
“A combination of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Labour have been in government since the foundation of this state.
“They still do politics in the old way.
“They are a cosy consensus for cuts and austerity and conservative values.
“It is a time for new politics.
“A time for genuine republican politics based on citizens’ rights.
“The EU and Local Government elections and the two Dáil by-elections provide a unique and historic opportunity to change the Irish political landscape for the better.
“It’s a chance to elect new leaders, with new ideas in every one of the 32 counties.
“A vote for Sinn Féin is a vote for a fairer way.
“It is a vote for a society and economy run in the interest of citizens, not vested interests or golden circles.
“It’s a vote to strengthen and reinvigorate the Peace Process; and for an agreed, united Ireland.
“It’s a vote for MEPs and TDs who will stand up for Ireland and for councilors who will fight for their communities.
“It’s a vote for equality and a better Ireland.
“On Thursday, in the north and on Friday, in the south, make the change. Vote Sinn Féin.”
