Ardoyne parade application should be refused - Kelly

29 May, 2014 - by Gerry Kelly

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said the latest application for a controversial parade in north Belfast should be refused.

Speaking after a meeting with the Parades Commission this morning at which the application was discussed, the North Belfast MLA said;

"A delegation including Martin McGuinness and I met with the Parades Commission to discuss this issue and as far as I am concerned it is straightforward.

"A determination was issued on this parade last year that it would not be allowed to return and there is no reason why that should change.

"Applications like this have been made several times since last July.

"These repeated applications to get the Parades Commission to overturn last year's determination are a clear attempt to undermine the integrity of the commission.

"The last thing the community in Ardoyne needs is another parade.

"This latest application should be refused on the same grounds as last year."
