Sinn Féin Councillor makes history on Banbridge Council

6 June, 2014

Banbridge Sinn Féin group leader Brendan Curran has congratulated Councillor Pól Ó Gribín on becoming the first Sinn Féin Councillor to hold a position of Vice Chair on the Council.

 Councillor Curran stated,

“Councillor Pól Ó Gribín has created history tonight by being elected to serve as Vice chair in the final year of the old Banbridge Council.

“Pól who represents the Leitrim ward will no doubt represent all the people of the Council area in a fair and equal manner.

“Banbridge Council was a traditionally Unionist controlled Council so it is good to see attitudes changing and senior roles within Council being distributed on a fairer manner.

“I would call on Craigavon Council to adopt a similar position and distribute positions across all parties so that as we move into the new super council everyone can feel an equal part of it.”
