Maskey condemns racist attack

9 June, 2014 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin MP for West Belfast Paul Maskey has slammed those responsible for what appears to be a racist attack in the Sliabh Dubh area.

 Speaking today Mr Maskey said:

"It saddens me that a man was subjected to a racist attack and set upon by a number of men in West Belfast while he was on his way to work simply because of the colour if his skin.

"This attack needs condemned in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts are with the victim of this cowardly and senseless attack.

"I understand two people have been arrested.

"Only this Saturday we saw 8,000 people march through Belfast sending a very clear message that racism is wrong. As the MP for this area I am conveying the same message from this community. Racism and racists are not welcome in any part of Belfast."
