DUP once again abuse parliamentary privilege

10 June, 2014 - by Conor Murphy

Sinn Féin MP Conor Murphy has said Peter Robinson’s evidence today to the Westminster Select Committee was a blatant attempt to deflect attention away from constructively dealing with the past and is yet another abuse of parliamentary privilege by unionists.

 Mr Murphy said,

“It didn’t take long for the Westminster Select Committee’s hearing on the issue of On the Runs to degenerate into a circus as Sinn Féin had predicted.

“The DUP, not for the first time, have abused parliamentary privilege to make unfounded allegations about individuals which have no relevance to the hearing.

“Peter Robinson’s comments are an attempt to distract attention from the real issues which are comprehensively addressed in the Haass proposals.

"Sinn Féin is prepared to deal constructively on all of these legacy issues.

"If the DUP are serious they will urgently engage with the other parties over the coming days."
