Sinn Féin take Deputy Mayor of Craigavon Council for 1st time

10 June, 2014

Sinn Féin leader on Craigavon Council Gemma McKenna has welcomed the historic appointment of Sinn Féin Councillor Catherine Seeley as Deputy Mayor in Craigavon Council.

 Ms. McKenna said,

“I congratulate Catherine Seeley in her appointment as Deputy Mayor of Craigavon Council as this is the first time a member of Sinn Féin has held one of the two top positions.

“Catherine is an excellent choice who will represent the entire Council area during her tenure as Deputy Mayor.

“I also welcome the fact that we are now beginning to see a more mature politic beginning to emerge in Craigavon Council there is still more work to be done before we have proper power sharing.

“While I welcome the fact that Catherine was elected with the help of Unionists votes I would like to see the full implementation of the d’Hondt principles of power sharing.”
