Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has said an impromptu vigil organised in West Belfast shows the depth of feeling in the local community about a racist attack last night.
Ms McCann said,
“This vigil was organised at very short notice. The community wanted to show its support for the man and his family and the turn out this evening’s vigil highlights the opposition to racism within this community.
“I paid a visit to the family home of the man who was attacked last night. He and his family are still badly shaken over the attack but they are encouraged by the support from neighbours and the local community.
“’There can be no place for racism or any other form of hate crime in this community.
“The turn out tonight has demonstrated that racism won’t be tolerated in West Belfast.”ENDS/CRÍOCH
