McCann raises Palestinian issues with Deputy Israeli ambassador

12 June, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has met with the Deputy Israeli Ambassador.

Speaking today Ms McCann said:

“This meeting was frank and I raised a number of issues with the Ambassador. A key focus was the builiding of peace in the Middle East.

“I believe that a lasting and just settlement can only be achieved through a meaningful process of dialogue with all partners included. This means that the Israeli government must recognise and negotiate with the Palestinian unity government.

“I also raised a number of pressing issues with the Ambassador not least the proposed force feeding of those Palestinian prisoners currently on hunger strike, administrative detention and the detention of Palestinian children.

“It is imperative the Israel moves on these issues in order to help create a climate for advancing the peace process.”
