Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has encouraged people to have their say on proposals to protect coasts and waterways across the North.
Speaking following the launch of a consultation on Marine Conservation Zones, the Newry and Armagh MLA said;
"Last year we brought forward proposals for the creation of Marine Consultation Zones to protect our loughs, coastlines and other waterways.
"We are fortunate to have some of the most beautiful loughs and stretches of coastline anywhere in the world and it is important they are protected.
"But it should also be recognised that our loughs and coastlines also form part of our unique selling point for tourists.
"We need to strike a balance between ensuring our marine environment is protected and that it can be used for recreation in a responsible manner.
"One of the proposals being considered is the issuing of fixed monetary penalties for activities which are damaging to the marine environment.
"I would encourage people to take part in the consultation and make their views known."
