Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard said today’s appeal by the PSNI for information on the 20th anniversary of the Loughinisland Massacre is an “insult to people’s intelligence”.
And the South Down representative said the PSNI must hand over immediately all files it has on the killings to the Police Ombudsman.
Chris Hazzard said:
“The PSNI is currently doing all in its power to thwart an investigation by the Police Ombudsman into the Loughinisland Massacre of six local people 20 years ago today.
“So its fresh appeal for information is an insult to people’s intelligence and to the families of the victims in particular.
“The PSNI should immediately hand over all its files on the massacre to the Police Ombudsman and actively assist his investigation into RUC/British intelligence collusion with the killers.
“There is a large body of evidence which now points to the involvement of at least two state agents in the murders.
“It’s clear state agencies have made a concerted attempt to cover up the role of police and British intelligence in the planning and execution of the massacre 20 years ago.
“The PSNI needs to end its policy of denying the truth to the survivors and families of the victims of the massacre." Ends/Críoch
