Kelly comments on Tour of the North determination

19 June, 2014 - by Gerry Kelly

Commenting on the Parades Commission determination which will permit the North Belfast Tour of the North parade along Duncairn Gardens Sinn Fein MLA Gerry Kelly said:

“There currently exists an opportunity to deal with the difficult issues of parades, the past and flags through all party talks and that must be grasped.

“Meanwhile the last thing the people of North Belfast need is the further raising of tensions with parades on the Duncairn Gardens when an alternative route is used on the outward bound part of this parade.

“It would be regrettable if another parade was allowed to proceed along this interface without meaningful dialogue with the residents of which the vast majority are Nationalists.

“The Tour of the North parades can often set the tone for the summer and I’m appealing for calm on Friday evening.”
