Garda Whistlebower John Wilson will be just one of the speakers of note at the 5th annual Sinn Féin Summer School which takes place this weekend in Baile Bhuirne, Co. Cork.
The Summer School, themed as “Speaking Out and Standing up”, will be held in the Mills Inn on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of June. The audience can also look forward to contributions from personalities from the worlds of media, campaigning, arts and politics.
Other highlights include highly anticipated contributions from Anne Cadwallader, author of ‘Lethal Allies – British Collusion in Ireland’, investigative journalist Gemma O’Doherty and Comedian PJ Gallagher.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to hear from Frank Connolly who authored the book ‘Tom Gilmartin: The Man who brought down a Taoiseach and Exposed the Greed and Corruption at the heart of Irish Politics’ and Margaret Urwin from Justice for the Forgotten.
On Saturday afternoon, Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD will lead a discussion on the topic of women in politics. The discussion entitled ‘Towards Equal Representation’ will also feature Anna Lo MLA, Michelle O’Donnell Keating (Co-Founder Women for Election), Catherine Halloran (Political Correspondent, Irish Daily Star) and Brigid Quilligan (Director Irish Traveller Movement).
Marian Kelly who is a survivor of the Bessborough Mother and Baby Home will also share her story. Later in the day, sean nós singer Nell Ní Chronín and artist Shane Cullen will participate in a discussion on the arts.
The event will be opened on the Friday night by Sinn Féin’s newly elected MEP for Ireland South Liadh Ní Riada. Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD will deliver the closing address on Saturday evening.
