Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed the announcement from Education Minister John O'Dowd that Scoil an Droichid will be included on the Department's capital build scheme list.
The South Belfast MLA said;
"Scoil an Droichid is the only Irish medium primary school in South & East Belfast.
"Since its establishment in 1997 the school has continued to grow to the point where it now has seven classes and its own Naíscoil unit.
"The growth in numbers of parents and children attracted to Scoil an Droichid has meant that it has far out grown its current facilities.
"A recent BELB inspection of the facilities reported that the current school buildings were unfit for purpose and would need substantial investment to bring them up to a reasonable standard.
"This is therefore a timely announcement and one that will undoubtedly delight pupils, staff and parents alike.
"This will also provide a welcome boost for the Irish language community in South & East Belfast.
"Having a state of the art school building can only attract more pupils and parents to Scoil an Droichid and in turn continue to build the Irish language community."
