McCann praises role of community sector

25 June, 2014 - by Jennifer McCann

Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has praised the valuable contribution the Community Sector has made to delivering change in local communities.

Speaking at CFNI's Annual Community Conference she said;

"Local community organisations enable and empower local communities to deliver services and programmes to those in most need.

"They provide a vital contribution to the everyday lives of individuals, families and communities and yet very often the large part they play goes unrecognised.

"Real change happens when local people are part of the process of the design, delivery and implementation of policy making and project delivery.

"Building relationships and structures that involve local communities directly is the only way that real meaningful change to the quality of people’s lives can happen.

"All of us most work together at policy and delivery stages of programmes and projects to deliver the social change that our community needs."
