McElduff welcomes green energy schools funding

26 June, 2014 - by Barry McElduff

Sinn Féin MLA Barry McElduff has welcomed a £10 million investment in green energy in schools.

 Speaking after Education Minister John O'Dowd announced the investment package, the West Tyrone MLA said;

 "This £10 million investment by Minister John O'Dowd is welcome and will be used to make schools more energy efficient.

 "Not only will it allow schools to reduce energy costs, it sends out a very important message about the importance of the green economy.

 "As places of learning schools have an important role to play in setting an example to children and young people about the benefits of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and greener forms of energy.

 "Schools are at the heart of local community so people will also learn a valuable lesson when they see solar panels on the roof and other energy saving measures." ENDS/CRÍOCH
